Art has been a lifelong passion for me—an essential part of who I am and how I connect with the world. Though I’ve always felt a deep urge to create, it was in recent years that I fully embraced the opportunity to pursue my path as a professional artist. My work is inspired by a profound connection to the ocean, which has always been my happy place and a constant source of movement, rhythm, and energy in my art.
I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts from California State University of Long Beach, where I also had the opportunity to study abroad in Italy, focusing on ceramics. My creative process includes a wide range of mediums including oils, acrylics, charcoal, ceramics, and epoxy resin. While living on the beautiful island of Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi, the stunning coastal landscapes and vibrant marine life deeply influenced my work—shaping it into the ocean-inspired mixed media style I continue to explore today.
My current work portrays unique, vibrant seascapes that reflect the deep blues and turquoise hues of the ocean, created through layers of acrylic paint, sand, micas, and epoxy resin. The high-gloss finish of the resin captures the graceful motion of water, while the textured acrylic base mimics the natural movement of sand. This blend of mediums results in a mysterious depth and hyper-realistic quality that is often mistaken for drone photography.
Through every piece, I aim to share the magic, emotion, and dynamic beauty of the sea—inviting others to feel the same awe and serenity that the ocean gives me.
Art that makes waves…
Holly’s process starts with an under layer of acrylic paint on top of a custom hand-crafted wood canvas. Next she pours epoxy resin which mimics a wave. Each layer cures for approximately 12 hours upon which Holly adds a second layer. She continues to layer each piece, sometimes with 5 to 6 layers, creating depth and movement in each wave.
